What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device. Cookies are used for many purposes — some useful (keeping you logged in), some less so (tracking your behaviour across the web).

The one cookie we set

Lumen sets a single cookie: lumen_user_session. Here is everything about it:

• Purpose: Authentication. This cookie keeps you logged in to your Lumen account.
• Type: Session / persistent (30-day expiry).
• Flags: HttpOnly (cannot be read by JavaScript), SameSite=Lax (protection against cross-site request forgery), Secure (only transmitted over HTTPS).
• Content: A cryptographically signed session identifier. It does not contain your personal data.
• Expiry: 30 days from your last login, or immediately when you log out.

What we do NOT do

• We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels.
• We do not use analytics cookies (Google Analytics, Hotjar, Mixpanel, or similar).
• We do not share cookie data with any third party for advertising or profiling purposes.
• We do not fingerprint your device or browser.

Third-party cookies

When you sign in using Google ("Continue with Google"), Google may set cookies on your device as part of their OAuth flow. These cookies are governed by Google’s own cookie policy and privacy policy, which we encourage you to review. Lumen has no control over Google’s cookies.

Your choices

• You can delete the lumen_user_session cookie at any time in your browser settings. Doing so will log you out of Lumen.
• You can block cookies entirely in your browser settings, but Lumen will not function correctly without the session cookie.
• There is no cookie consent banner on Lumen because we do not use tracking cookies that require consent under applicable law. The session cookie is strictly necessary for the service to function.
